Welcome to SAAM 2014! We’re excited for another month of awesome awareness-raising events and projects. Sexual Assault Awareness Month is an opportunity to raise awareness about sexual violence and educate ourselves on how to prevent it. By working together, we can make a difference in our mission to stop sexual violence and its impact. Join us in our advocacy efforts, and don’t forget to wear your teal!
Aside from the many awesome events we have planned — cupcakes, anyone? — there are also a few projects you can join in on from the comfort of your couch or while on the go. So whether you’re in your jammies with a laptop or out-and-about with your smartphone, check out how you can get involved…
The National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) is hosting a #30DaysOfSAAM photo contest on Instagram. Each day in April, post a photo that reflects the day’s theme for your chance to win a SAAM prize pack. They will select a winner each week. Make sure to use the hashtag #30DaysOfSAAM and tag @NSVRC in your post.
Join us for our #EndRapeNC Tweet-Up! On Thursday, April 17, we’ll take over Twitter with the hashtag #EndRapeNC. Join the conversation as we discuss violence prevention, rape culture, and crisis response in North Carolina. We’ll be tweeting from @OCRCC.
Speaking of tweet-ups, NSVRC is hosting a series of Twitter chats throughout the month. Every Tuesday in April at 1pm, join them and other activists on Twitter. Use hashtags #tweetaboutit and #saam. Maybe we’ll see you there!
The simplest way to participate in SAAM is to talk about it. Tell your friends, post on your social media, and make an impact. Let us know how you’re taking a stand against violence via Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. And don’t forget to check our SAAM page for upcoming events! See you soon!
