A Year Like No Other

2020 has been a year like no other. When North Carolina went into lockdown due to Covid 19, we changed all of our programs, including our educational programs to virtual, translated them into Spanish, and developed digital tools for students and families to use in their own homes. We launched a Consent + Covid campaign to help people promote boundaries of all kinds, and created new social media accounts to focus on Latino/a/x and teen community members.

We recently heard from one of our youth’s parents. This story will show you how needed and powerful your gift is. A 15-year-old in Orange County was having problems understanding how to set boundaries regarding their body. Over time, their parents became concerned, until they found out that their child’s school offered Start Strong, an OCRCC Program.

“While it is an ongoing process, I am starting to feel that my child is more empowered and in control of setting their limits with their body. They are slowly starting to be more comfortable asking questions of my partner and me, and we are grateful for what they have learned so far. Our hope is that this educational program will help decrease the potential of sexual violence in their future. This program has helped my kid turn on a light and start to find their voice.”
